My First Trip to Boy Scout Summer Camp

When it was time for my first meeting, I was very nervous. It was only two boys there that I knew because they went to my middle school with me. I talked to them for a little bit, but not for long. Well it was time for me to introduce myself I was scared. Then I said” my name is Solomon Howard and I go to Kirby middle school”, and I slowly sat down letting out a quiet sigh of relief. While they were applauding. After all the introductions were over the Scoutmaster said,” Its time to talk about our next trip to summer camp. This summer camp thing was new to me so IM going,” excuse me what’s summercamp.” An Older scout named Ian told me it was when the troop goes to S-F Scout Ranch in St.James, Missouri for one week. As soon as he told me that I said,” NO Way”! After a while my mom encouraged me to go. When we got home from the meeting I started to pack my clothes for the trip. In my bag I had a flashlight, first-aid kit, a toothbrush, deordorant, double the change of clothes for one week, and a bag of chips for the ride there. That night I ate, said my prayers, and went to bed. The next morning I woke up with this terrible feeling in my stomach, but it was just nervousness. My mom took me to the church to meet up with the troop, then she left. Soon after that everybody buckled up and then we were off to camp S-F. The car ride itself was pretty boring but I hung in there. Finally, we were at camp S-f the official Boy Scout camp. It was so many Boy Scouts there I didn’t know what to do. so we went to our campsite and went to bed because we got there around 9:00p.m. When I woke up in the morning I got homesick on the way to my first class. So I went to tell my Scoutmaster and he said that I had to stay the whole week. I didn’t really want to hear that so I made up a lie and told the head office I was sick. They called my parents and told them that I was sick, so they came up to the ranch as soon as possible. When my parents entered the ranch there I was sitting on the log crying. My parents approached me and told me to stop faking but I lied and told them I was telling the truth. So my mom and dad had a talk and told me this was the first and last time I was coming home early from camp. On the way home I was so overjoyed, but after the silent celebration I went to sleep. When I got home I said to myself” I will never go to summer camp at S-F Scout Ranch again.”
