CD's Are Better By: Matthew Holt Flip the Knob on the radio and you will hear the same thing on each station, but if you pop a compact disc and you control what you listen to. The buying of CD's is much more worth while than listening to the radio. All you need nowadays to become a rap artist on the radio is an interesting beat and chorus (also referred to as a "hook"). Artists on the radio simply do not have anything to say worth listening to. There aren't too many M C's in today's society. There is only ten- percent rap in today's songs. The other ninety- percent is the singing of the hook, and dancing to the beat, and whatever else they do. For example the song "Laffy Taffy" by D4L, there is three verses in that song and neither one is worth listening to. The only crunk music worth listening to is Lil' Jon, and Three 6 Mafia. I have nothing against snap music, but if your going to produce it, at least follow that track up with something lyrical. Every song you make doesn't have to sound exactly the same as the one created before it. The only difference is another beat, and another chorus. The only thing you hear on the radio is just another club banger, about either getting in a fist -fight with someone, or about how fat a female's behind is. Find something else to rap about! Though, if you do choose to go that route, be creative. Collaborate with other rap artists, or maybe involve an R&B singer to help with the singing of the chorus. A great example where this has happened is Akon, and Eminem's new song, "Smack That". All it needs is a little thought. If artists nowadays were truly talented, they would actually produce a piece of music that people could tell they worked hard on. For example "Ballin'" by Jim Jones. He created a quotable single that people can relate to. He actually gave the song of a meaning behind it, unlike some other artists. There are not that many true M C's left in the rap game. Only living legends such as: L L Cool J, Dr.Dre, The Game, T I, Nas, Bone Thugs In Harmony, Eminem, Ludacris, Jeezy, Jadakiss, Shine, U.G.K., N.W.A., etc. can be considered as M C's. You also can't forget the two most phenomenal idols in the history of the rap industry; unfortunately, they are both deceased. They practically built hip-hop from the ground up. They are no one other than, Tupac, and Notorious B.I.G. All the other miscellaneous junk you hear on the radio is not to be called music in my opinion. Every one of the artists I named, living or deceased, were all versatile artists. Their first single might be a club banger, but the next single will be something lyrical that you wouldn't expect. In conclusion, I'm no longer going to listen to the radio. I will stick with the buying of CDs. Not only are they much better in quality, but you don't have to wait around until the commercial is over. You don't have to listen to whack rappers. You can jam to something that has a meaning. The only down fall is that CDs can get expensive. Also, you have to keep restocking AA batteries for your CD player. Other than that, CDs make much more since than trying to pay attention to the annoying, embarrassment to rap music finding its way into the antenna of your radio.
