My First Stitches
My life was fun I was always being goofy or competitive. I was always athletic and my favorite sport is football. My dad and I always would go outside and throw the football with each other he would send me on routes to catch the ball. We would be outside for hours just throwing the football. We would talk with each other while throwing the football or play with my little brothers Kevin and Javon. We would even try to teach youngest brother, Kalil, how to play or sometimes my mom would even throw the ball with us.
On August 9, 2002 the day before Kalil’s birthday My dad, Kevin, and I were coming home from my aunts house and my mom had said that we would be busy all day planning Kalil’s party and wouldn’t have time to go outside. My dad and I were a little upset about it so when we pulled up to the house the football was in the car. “Go out for one this is the only one we’re going to get today.” my dad said. I gave him the football and took off running the ball was pretty high and had a nice spiral but the ball started to drift to the right but that didn’t stop me I still went under it. I ran a little up the hill in the front yard the ball hit my hands and I slipped and slid into the handrail head first I dropped the ball. My dad and Kevin came running to asking was I all right but the only thing I was thinking about was how I dropped the ball. “Ouch look at all that blood” Kevin said. I thought he was playing but he looked serious I rubbed the side of my face and looked at my hand but nothing. My dad moved a leaf a little over from where I had rubbed and blood just ran down my face. My mom came out the house and asked why were we just sitting in the grass when we have to go. I turned around to go up the steps and she looked shocked and said to my father “He’s going to need stitches.” I was nervous because I had never had stitches before in fact I had only been to the emergency room once and that was at birth. When we explained what happened to this male doctor he asked one thing “Did you catch it.” I laughed a little after that. The doctors told me that was good and unusual for a boy
The doctor I had was really nice she was funny but about half way through the stitches I was tired and went to sleep it took about 40 minutes to get it through. I had dissolvable stitches so I didn’t have to go back to doctor to get them taken out and I couldn’t get the stitches for 3-4 weeks and there was a swimming party for my little cousin in 2-3 weeks. While going through my files the doctors found that I needed a shot so the fun didn’t stop there we were at the hospital for about 20 more minutes. I felt better once it was all over I was sort of glad I got the experience so next time if I need stitches I wont be worried. The next day was Kalil’s party my aunt asked my dad what he was thinking and why didn’t he tell me to stop constantly. The stitches dissolved right before the pool party so I was able to swim. It all worked out for me I now have the scar to remember my stitches and I will always remember how much I love the game of football because of it.
