"I Am" Poem

I am intelligent and caring

I hear birds singing
I see a million dollars
I want to be an author
I am intelligent and caring

I pretend to be a famous author
I feel like an asset to America
I touch my goals
I worry about my grades
I cry when I am hurt by someone I love
I am intelligent and caring

I understand time waits on no one
I say that God is the answer to every problem
I dream of being a famous writer
I try to do everything to the best of my ability
I hope to make my mother proud
I am intelligent and caring

Where I'm From Poem

I am from hot dogs and pork-n-beans
From the West Side of St. Louis.
I am from Marvin Gaye and the Temptations
While cleaning up on a Saturday morning.
I am from sassy women who are well educated
Who knows how to stand on their own two feet.

I am from Africa but
But was brought to this land in chains.
I am from picking cotton
While singing Negro spirituals.

"Wade in the water,
Wade in the water, chil'ren
Wade in the water,
God's gon trouble the water."

I am from segregation and Jim Crow laws
Yet still around for the cause
I am from strong black leaders
Like Dr. King and Harriet Tubman
Who help lead the way.
I am from strong black leaders
Who are here to stay!

The hardship that I am from
Is what makes me who I am today.
I am from God
Who made me like the sun,
And I will shine like it's beautiful ray.

Limerick

There once was a talented writer,
Who was also a great fighter.
Was the best at her time.
With her beautiful rhythms
She told other writers to bite her.

English Sonnet (also known as Shakespearean Sonnet)

A Mother's Love

A mother's love is like no other's care.
She will be in my life from day to day.
Without her by my side I could not bare,
In the winter she is my month of May.

She's my light when I'm not able to see
Like a map she guides me throughout my life
She is the only one to care for me
She is a good mother and a good wife

Mothers love is like a rainbow of love
Has the strength of ten bears and ten tigers
She is so strong that she can not be shoved.
She cannot tolerate dirt and liars.

To all the mothers I thank God for you
For all the wonderful things that you do.

Petrarchan Sonnet (also known as the Italian sonnet)

Love Don't Live Here Anymore

I can't believe I thought I was in love
You stole my heart and now I want it back
I am your life and now it's me you lack
We were meant to be as one like two doves.
But now I pray for you to God above.
I don't know if you were being a mack
Or just being an extra pain and sack.
I felt as if I was the one in love.

I am so glad you are out of my life.
Now I have found real peace within my soul
I have moved on and made myself better
All I need is God to make me feel whole.
I don't need to be your lifetime wife.
I hate I wrote a passionate letter.

Blank Verse

God is the reason for the song I sing
He is Alpha and Omega to me.
That is why I will continue to praise him,
Giving him the honor and the glory.
Don’t know how to do anything but praise

No one can do the things my Lord can do
Who can save a horrible reck like me
His son died on the cross to save my soul
And because of that I am now made new.
Being with God is the best place to be.

Problems occur he’s the one I talk to.
He hears my cries and makes me whole again
Without him I don’t know where I would be.
Can’t see myself without him in my life.
I am what I am today cuz of him.

I wrote this to say thank you to my God
For all that he has done for me today.
I am grateful I am alive now
Because children are dying everyday
God spared my life in such a special way.

Other Poems

Deadbeat Dad

One day you will wish that
You were part of my life
Instead of ignoring me
The way that you do.

I used to be daddy's little girl
But now it's like I don't even know you.
It'll take time, but trust me
My heart and soul will heal
Though you give me excuses
That " Everything ain't
Always what it appeals."

I do love you
Because you are why I am here
But you have scarred me for life
And that's why I shed tears.

I wonder day-to-day
Do you even love me
But through you actions
I can already see what
The answer will be

Once I'm rich and famous
You will wish you could rewind
Time and change your actions

I'm sorry I wasn't good enough
To meet your expectations.

Stereotyped

I'm tired of being stereotyped
Into an image of what people want me to be.
Though I am beautiful and can dress,
That's not all there is to me.

Everyone is trying to be beautiful and thin
But little do they know
That true beauty comes from deep down within.

So what if I don't fit the criteria
Of the world,
What does that make me different?

Though I am not afraid to be different
Because it sets an identity
Of my own, though sometimes I feel alone
And I REALIZE that it is to God I belong

I hate to be stereotyped as
An African American who only turns to
Drugs, jail, and rap
Though my people do go through
Those things, that doesn't make
Me the one who has to be trapped.

I will sore above any stereotype placed
On me, and you can too
Brake the tradition,
The choice is up to you!!!!
