I understand life isn’t fair
I say live every day like it’s your last
I dream about things I can’t get in life
I try to be the best
I hope I get to Heaven

From America and the world
I am from music

Who extended the echo
As if I were a choir
I am from NYPD and dreams
From handcuffs and movie screens
I am from the Keep your head ups
And the never give ups
I am from if they hit you, hit them back
I’m from I’ve created a purpose for you
With my glorious blueprints
And my 7 days and 7 nights
I am from plantains and oxtails

To chicken and collard greens

From my father’s apartment

Everyday poems I compose,
Why I do this nobody knows,
This is how I feel,
My feelings are real,
Not being able to write blows
I eat because I am hungry,
I learn to cook from my mommy,
Food salty and sweet,
Warm, tender tasty meat
Some eat because they’re lonely

Now the snow is here,
I need to put on long johns,
Kids are out sledding
It is raining now,
Outside it is very wet
Everyone is damp
To the ground leaves fall,
Rakes in the yards of neighbors
It is getting cold
The sun took over,
Drowning everyone with heat,
Clothing has vanished
Everyone is not your friend
Just so you know
Some are your friends because of what you have
Some are your friends because of your wealth
Some are your friends just for the benefits
Be careful who you call friend
Associate is the word
Most associates talk about you behind your back
Most associates smile in your face
Most associates spread rumors to ruin your rep
Most associates will not give you a shoulder to lean on
Most associates take and take instead of give
These associates are not your friends
Keep your friends close
Keep your enemies’ closer
As the saying goes
I’m on a search for love,
Will it be sent from above?
How will I know if it’s true?
Drop some hints, give me a clue,
Will he give me hugs and kisses?
Will he dismiss my name and call me his misses
For someone to love that’s all I ask,
Searching for love is a difficult task.
Will he catch me in his arms,
Will he protect me from harm,
Where is this mystery man,
Waiting this long I can not stand,
When I find this man he will be my boo,
We will go to the alter and say I do.
